Elvin Bishop Struttin My Stuff 1975 us fine southern funky blues rock 2013 japan SHM remaster Shortly after recording this show for the King Biscuit Flower Hour in April 1976, Elvin Bishop, along with his current album at that time, Struttin My Stuff, made it to the #2 position on the Billboard pop chart and went gold (thanks, in large part, to its hit single, "Fooled Around And Fell In Love"). The single was already a hit, but it was this Biscuit show that gave Bishop his first extensive national radio exposure. In addition to Elvin Bishop himself on guitar and vocals, the group featured on his recording was made up of bassist Fly Brooks, keyboardist Bill Slais, second guitarist Johnny Vernazza, drummer Donny Baldwin and vocalists Reni Slais and Mickey Thomas. Essra Mohawk Essra Mohawk 1974 us elegant avant jazzy funk smooth rock 2010 bonus tracks edition Philadelphian Essra Mohawk is best known as the answer to the trivia question: �Who was the first female Mother (of Invention)?� She joined Frank Zappa and the band in 1967. Her name was Sandy Hurvitz back then, although Zappa dubbed her �Uncle Meat� for obscure reasons. But Mohawk had been in the music business for several years before her association with the Mothers at age 19. She recorded a single for Liberty when just 16 years old (�The Boy with the Way�, b-side �Memory of Your Voice�) and wrote songs recorded by the Shangri-Las and Vanilla Fudge. In 1969, Mohawk, nee Hurvitz, put out her first solo album, Sandy�s Album Is Here at Last!, on Zappa�s Bizarre record label. The record went basically unproduced (fellow Mother Ian Underwood is credited) and suffers from poor sound quality and other technical issues. They were based out of Philadelphia and known for their unique musical and sonic blend of Baroque Music,Classical Music, Folk Music, American Rock, British Rock, Country Music, and Ragtime. Elizabeths members were: Steve Weingarten (lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), who died in 2012; Bob Patterson (rhythm guitar, lead and backing vocals); Jim Dahme (flute, lead and backing vocals); Steve Paul Bruno (bass, organ, backing vocals); and, Hank Ransome (drums). His vocal and orchestral arrangements were, of course, peerless, the rhythm section of Les Brown and Harry Reynolds knitted together seamlessly, while David Dowds guitar work provided the sympathetic, laid-back feel that was required.  Apart from the odd overdubbed line from the new Moog synthesizer, everything was performed live with an absolute minimum of overdubs, with Rod on piano and Roger on acoustic guitar. Essra Mohawk Essra 1976 us beautiful silk art groovy rock 2003 japan release Listening to my early albums, there seems to be a progression from ballads to uptempos that took place over the years. My first album is all ballads, my second album, Primordial Lovers, has a few rnidtempos and uptempos, and my third album is half ballads and half uptempos. This album, my fourth, is very different from the ones before it in that there are only two ballads: �Summersong� and �Hello Winter�. I seem to have switched  gears from ballads to uptempos as though I were gaining some kind of momentum. On the original vinyl release, "Summersong" appeared on one side of the record and "Hello Winter" was on the other side, just like winter and summer are opposite seasons. "People Will Talk" appears twice (two different versions), the serious version began side one and the album ended with the sitly version. That disc is not their John Lennon/Yoko Ono/David Peel Apple Records debut from 1972, which was also named after this ensemble. When two Elephants Memory songs from the 1969 Buddah Records album appeared in the Capitol Records soundtrack to the film Midnight Cowboy, Buddah vice president Neil Bogart revamped and re-released the original LP, most likely and understandably, to cash in on the attention the band was getting from the hit film. "Old Man Willow" and "Jungle Gym at the Zoo" from the first LP appeared in Midnight Cowboy, and they show up again on side one of this disc along with a different spin on the Nilsson hit "Everybodys Talkin."
